The Vilimaa Cup is our local competitive pathway for our youth. We use the T4 PREMIER format.

It's now a best-of-three game series for all divisions.  Up to 2025 it has been a single-round representative event.

To win the honours of being crowned champions in 2025, teams must win two of the three game series.

Player pools for all games are selected based on current GPA as the primary factor for eligibility (3.0 GPA minimum for High School 2nds pool).  However, it's not the only determinant now as coaches will form their team from the available player pools at the time. Participation is optional - just because a player was selected, doesn't mean they have to participate.

In the event that there's a three-way-tie after three games then there'll be a play-off boulder until such time there's a winner at the end of game 3.

Lastly... We've introduced the ability for clubs to enter more than one team for each if the player depth suffices.  In addition to this there is now also the ability to introduce a Hybrid team (applicable for High School 2nds and Primary only and min GPA requirements apply).

GAME 2  (20 / 21 Jun)

PRIMARY RESULT:  DONX Snr  83,  BADGERS  71,  HORNETS  62,  DONX Jr  53

The Donx continued their good form by taking out game 2 as well as game 1 so the DONX have won the Primary 2025 series.

The Donx were the better team on three of the four boulders so a convincing 12 point victory was well deserved.  The energy in the house was gold right the way to the end.  EEE EOOOR to you and well done.

HIGH SCHOOL 2NDS RESULT

The Hornets went in as favourites to this game after a cracking game 1 and an even stronger team.  And their performance lived up to expectations with taking out the game and the series in a convincing manner.

So strong was their depth in that both their teams finished 1st and 2nd.  The Hornets A team finished a monstrous 28 points ahead of the pack which was tightly bunched with only 6 points separating 2nd and 4th.

Great win Hornets and well deserved.

HIGH SCHOOL 1STS RESULT:  HORNETS  56, DONX 45, BADGERS 38

The Hornets went into this game as favourites also given the current depth of their youth squad.  However, they were always going to have to fight for it.

The damage was done early on Boulder B as the Hornets opened up a 10 point half time lead.  The Donx pulled this back to 8 after Boulder C but the Hornets opened up the lead again on Boulder D to take out game 2 9 points ahead of the Donx and 18 ahead of the Badgers.

An early injury to Elias Watt didn't help the Badgers cause but they worked well regardless throughout the game and should be proud of their efforts.

The Donx performed well also but it was the day for the green as the Hornets take the honours in game 2.  It now goes down to game 3 later in the year to determine the 2025 series winner.

GAME 1

PRIMARY RESULT:  DONX 93,  BADGERS 62,  HORNETS 41

The Donx headed into the game as favourites but by half time it was still anyone's game.  They held a five point lead over the Badgers and a ten point lead over the Hornets.  However, it was the second half where they put the hammer down and blew the competitors away with a massive 66 point second half and finishing on 93 points.

The Donx were all girls this time and they deserved a well earned victory and also now go back-to-back from the Spring event.  Well done team.

High School 2nd Grade RESULT:   HORNETS 64,  BADGERS 45,  DONX 27

The Hornets won the previous Spring VC event with a last minute effort and their confidence seemed to have carried over to this event as they started strongly with a 25 point haul on Boulder A.  This gave them a healthy early 15 point lead which proved to be the difference in the end.  The next three boulders were hotly and evenly contested so their ability to work together and unpack a tricky mantle finish on Boulder A was huge.  Well done team green.

The Donx finished third, with the Badgers only pulling away from them with a solid Boulder D performance.

High School 1st Grade RESULT:    BADGERS 59,  HORNETS 58,  DONX 53

This game was hard to predict with teams full of different strengths in different places.  No team was a notable favourite.

When the Badgers received the last minute news that Ryan Cumberland was out, an enthusiastic Chaise Gwatkin was a healthy replacement having crushed the night before in the high school seconds game. Game on.

A tough finishing yellow wood Boulder A was evenly contested with only two points separating the three teams. Boulder B was a rather commiting high deadpoint finish resulting in a similar outcome with all teams scoring well.

The Hornets went into the halftime break ahead 34, Donx 32 and Badgers on 31 points.

A 'volume' dominant boulder C proved challenging for the Hornets adopting for a dynamic approach rather than static strength which proved costly as pack closed in.  All teams were on 41 points at the end of the third quarter with one boulder to go.

Boulder D involved a combination of a dynamic co-ordination early sequence followed by a calm-the-farm static slab sequence.  It was anyone's game.  The Badgers won boulder D 18, Hornets 17 and Donx 12 so took the title by one point in the end in a nail-biter.

Best on ground had to go to Henry Cowell who led the way as breaker on all boulders and simply crushed. Well done Badgers who move back into the winning circle after a dominant 2024.
