The Badgers won round 6 against the Hornets last night in a close game 59 - 50.
The late withdrawal of Archie from the Badgers team opened up opportunity for team green.
The first half was a time of mixed opportunities with a number of close moments on bother boulders. Both teams didn't really capitalise on Boulder A and it was Ben Hope's finish that helped the Hornets go into the halftime break ahead 21 - 20.
Boulder C was evenly poised with the Badgers nudging ahead slightly at this stage which was a boulder suited to their collective strengths probably more than the Hornets. However, it was Boulder D that opened up the score as the Badgers found a way to speed up the time-consuming chimney moves and take advantage of the clock. It was a Boulder that was probably better suited to the Hornets but the unconventional approach of the Badgers worked best.
It certainly could have gone either way as it was a game of mixed opportunities for both teams. That's how this sport works - all boulders are absolutely possible for all players. It can simply come down to how the game is played in the moment to determine the outcome.
Badgers are now even on points with the Donkeys after six rounds but formally sit on top of the ladder based on the two team for-and-against.
