The West Tamworth Donx have done it - they've finally won the opens division of the T4 League this season and what a cracking story it is.
By mid season the Moore Creek Honey Badgers looked like they had it in the bag and were out in front by plenty. Such is the nature of sport and circumstance, late season wheel slip from the Moore Creek team and the opportunity opened up. Daruka Badgers and the East Tamworth Donx were in the race and with the Loomberah Badgers finishing strong anything was possible.
With one round to go, it was the West Tamworth Donx who had a healthy enough lead and momentum to hold off the pack. They sniffed victory and finished well and took the win on 29 points, ahead of the Daruka Badgers on 25 points and the Moore Creek Badgers on 24 points.
The West Tamworth Donx have plenty to smile about and deservedly so. This team typifies what the T4 League is all about.
There's broad combination of people in this team that pulled together quietly to get the outcome they were looking for.
They performed consistently well and placed in the top 5 every week, and yet they didn't win any of the rounds - not one.
Small growth player by player, week by week right the way to the end of season. A lot can be said about the power of small group accountability and friendships. That's how teams and healthy communities work.
Two of the oldest / most mature members of the Donx club (all three clubs actually) were in this team. Clive Murphy and Glenn Cayley led the way with consistency and contribution. Carter Griffiths set the intention from the start of season and the positive vibes rippled out. Sami Peterson and Dave Ross were consistency in the engine room and Chris Nunn much the same going about business quietly and with notable growth.
Well done West Tamworth Donx. Well deserved. Great work.
