The North West Boulderfest 2024 held over the long weekend and was a raging success.

The sessions were popular across a range of ages and the Hornets eventually came out on top in the inclusive three day event.  The Friday evening sessions doubled up as qualifiers for the higher level showcase event in the Kaputar Cup with players coming from Sydney, Melbourne and Newcastle.

The semi finals for the Kaputar Cup started on Saturday morning and concluded with the final between the Badgers and the Donx top grade teams.  The final was always going to be a cracker but an unknown outcome with many high level athletes thrown into an unfamiliar format for them.  How they adapted is a credit to them.

All boulders involved dynamic strength and coordination sequences that both teams needs to unpack in their own way.  Tops were hard to come by and the sequences challenging.  Both teams performed well to their respective strengths and went into halftime tied at 21 - 21.

The game was certainly energy packed and it came down to the dying seconds of the final boulder before the verdict was conclusive.

The Badgers needed one top to draw the game and when Lachie McNee and Emillio Gropp peeled off the second last hold the Badgers feel agonisingly short of the win.  At the same time Summer Fraser locked in zone 2 to lock down the win for the Donx winning 32 - 28.

Cracking game, cracking event and an excellent weekend had by all.
